Substation Power Equipment Engineer, Senior

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the specification and standardization of substation power equipment including transformers, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, instrument transformers, and surge arresters.
- Perform and review advanced engineering analyses for equipment ratings, fault current withstand, thermal performance, insulation coordination, and lifecycle cost.
- Evaluate vendor proposals, review technical submittals, and oversee factory acceptance testing (FAT) to ensure compliance with utility requirements and industry standards.
- Provide expert technical support during equipment installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting, including field visits and coordination with construction and operations teams.
- Collaborate with procurement, asset management, and reliability teams to optimize equipment selection, performance, and maintenance strategies.
- Develop and maintain engineering standards, datasheets, and technical documentation for substation equipment.
- Lead root cause analysis of equipment failures and recommend corrective actions or design improvements.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to training programs and technical development initiatives.
- Ensure power equipment is in compliance with associated regulatory requirements (NERC, IUB, etc.).
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes affecting substation equipment, and apply insights to improve utility practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Major in Electrical Engineering or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education.
- Minimum of six (6) years of work experience in related area for Senior Engineer level.
- Power system coursework preferred for electrical engineering majors.
- Utility experience preferred.
- Possess sound analytical, problem-solving and documentation skills.
- Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with superiors and individuals inside and outside the Company.
- Able to multi-task and work under minimal supervision, in a team environment.
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Ability to learn and utilize job specific software.
