Responsibilities

  • Preparation and detailed review of substation drawings such as Substation General Arrangement, Substation Electrical Equipment Plans, Substation Electrical Section Views, Substation Detailed Bill of Material, Substation Lightning Stroke Shielding Plan, Substation Grounding Plan, Substation Conduit, Electrical Connection and Grounding Details, Substation Below Grade Conduit/Raceway Plan, Control Building Equipment, Cable Tray, Lighting, Grounding Plans and Section.
  • Technical review of project team's comments on vendor design deliverables (ensuring compliance with specifications), coordination of incorporation of those comments, and consolidation and resolution of project team comments.
  • Lead during field walkdowns, gather data at client facilities, interface with clients and contractors to discuss walkdown issues, conduct constructability walkdowns, identify applicable codes and standards, and provide guidance in applying codes and standards.
  • Participate in enhancing design standards and processes, identifying applicable standards, maintaining and utilizing working knowledge of design standards and practices, ensuring designs conform to codes and standards, applying client-specific standards, providing guidance and mentoring, reviewing and supervising design deliverables, and providing technical guidance to others.
  • Develop cost-effective design approaches, obtain required input for calculations, prepare and review calculations, implement work plans, provide guidance to the project team, and oversee routine performance and personnel issues.

Qualifications

  • An Associates Degree in Drafting or equivalent technical experience.
  • 15 or more years of substation physical design experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer drafting tools (AutoCAD and/or MicroStation).
  • Ability to visualize Equipment Details, Phase to Ground and Phase to Phase Clearances.
  • Ability to multi-task from project to project.
  • Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of a computer.
