Responsibilities

  • Preparation and detailed review of substation drawings such as Substation General Arrangement, Substation Electrical Equipment Plans, Substation Electrical Section Views, Substation Detailed Bill of Material, Substation Lightning Stroke Shielding Plan, Substation Grounding Plan, Substation Conduit, Electrical Connection and Grounding Details, Substation Below Grade Conduit/Raceway Plan, Control Building Equipment, Cable Tray, Lighting, Grounding Plans and Section, and other relevant drawings.
  • Technical review of project team’s comments on vendor design deliverables, ensuring compliance with specifications, coordinating the incorporation of those comments, and consolidating and resolving project team comments.
  • Lead field walkdowns, gather data at client facilities, and interface with clients and contractors to discuss walkdown issues.
  • Conduct constructability walkdowns with clients and contractors, identify applicable codes and standards, and provide guidance in applying codes and standards.
  • Participate in enhancing design standards and processes for company use, identifying applicable standards for technical tasks, maintaining and utilizing working knowledge of design standards and practices, ensuring designs conform to codes and standards, and applying client-specific standards.
  • Mentor designers, drafters, and other project stakeholders in the use of design/drafting tools and client-specific design tools, providing technical guidance in preparing and reviewing calculations, developing cost-effective design approaches, obtaining required input for calculations, and implementing work plan requirements within budget and schedule.
  • Provide performance feedback as a primary evaluator and be involved in performance and personnel issues for assigned staff, delegating and monitoring the work of assigned staff on technical matters pertinent to project assignments, and overseeing routine, day-to-day performance and personnel issues for assigned groups.

Qualifications

  • An Associates Degree in Drafting or equivalent technical experience.
  • 15 or more years of substation physical design experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer drafting tools (AutoCAD and/or MicroStation).
  • Ability to visualize Equipment Details, Phase to Ground and Phase to Phase Clearances.
  • Ability to multi-task from project to project and visualize parts in 3D without the aid of a computer.
