About the Role
Substation Foreman at Irby Construction Company shall possess a minimum of four (4) years of experience in a Journeymen electrical role. Substation, Commercial, or Industrial construction Journeymen electrical experience is a plus. Journeymen electricians must have a valid journeymen electrician card or be able to pass the Journeymen electricians test per government standards. The individual will possess all skills required for complete electrical installations and have in-depth knowledge of all applicable OSHA codes and standards, as well as the National Electrical Code.
This job is for Texas and spans several locations.
Responsibilities
- Typical Substation construction from Greenfield to Remodels, including:
- Trenching for ground grid & conduits
- Backfilling and compacting
- Foundation drilling, digging, and installation
- Lifting, placing, and setting structural steel
- Lifting, placing, and installing insulators and busswork
- Lifting, placing, and installing substation equipment such as breakers, metering, transformers, arrestors, etc.
- Moving and pulling control cable to medium voltage cable
- Placing finish stone and smoothing out the yard
- Job-Specific Duties:
- Read and understand control cable schedules from the client
- Ensure conduit sizes are correct for control cable pulls and installation techniques
- Read P&C prints for proper termination of multiple conductor control cables (up to 12/C #12 down to 1/C 4/0 cables)
- Perform or learn medium voltage terminations up to 34.5kv (training and certification provided)
- Understand DC systems as well as AC systems
- Supply insight on project construction regarding control cable pulling, installation, and termination
- Work in energized panels
- Knowledge of electrical, below-grade, or concrete foundation trade (a plus)
- High Voltage Substation construction knowledge or experience (a plus)
- Accountable for quality of work to ensure it is performed according to specifications
Requirements
- Adheres to all Company Safety and Health Policies
- Valid driver’s license
- Willing to stay out of town and travel as the project requires
- Available for typical work weeks of 4-10 hour shifts or 5-10 hour shifts
- Willing to work overtime and extended periods of time
- May work in storm restoration operations to rebuild and/or repair damaged power systems
- May attend training classes or seminars for new processes, safety regulations, or refresher training
- Ability to walk and work across uneven terrain
- Climbing on and off large trucks and equipment
- Work outside 100% of the time in inclement weather (heat, cold, rain, and possible snow)
- Able to lift in excess of 50 pounds on a daily basis
- Willing to work off the ground in man baskets (normal working heights are 20’-60’, with the possibility of working at 120’ heights)
- Able to work around energized systems
- Willing to assist with other activities while not actively performing Journeymen electrician duties
