About the role

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrated commitment to Grant PUD's mission, vision, values, strategic plan, and Grant PUD / IBEW Local 77 Code of Excellence.
  • Understand and adhere to compliance requirements for this position that may include laws, regulations, security guidelines, Grant PUD policies and procedures.
  • Operate a GPUD vehicle for business purposes, refer to the Vehicle/Asset Usage Policy, IS-TA-POL-001.
  • Participate in all aspects of our safety program, including but not limited to: Following all safety policies and procedures, alerting supervisors and coworkers to unsafe or hazardous working conditions, reporting any safety incidents or close calls within 24 hours to your supervisor, accepting feedback from supervisors and coworkers regarding your own safety performance, performing related duties as required or assigned.
  • Support, lead, or direct capital execution of projects as it relates to Substation design, materials, and equipment.
  • Support, lead, or direct processes focusing on operations and engineering practices that drive strong reliability and performance.
  • Research, design, and support the implementation of new and upgraded equipment throughout the substation, with guidance appropriate to level.
  • Collaborate with different stakeholders and provide input to substation project plans.
  • Coordinate with responsible groups and facilitate smooth transition of the design to implementation.
  • Develop design requirements relating to the application of equipment in substations.
  • Develop technical specification and standards for ordering equipment and parts, and utilize new technology and best practices during design.
  • Provide technical expertise and/or team leadership as needed.
  • Engage with manufacturers and suppliers, including plant/factory visits and project site visits, and represent the Substation Engineering department on new equipment and vendor evaluations.
  • Engage in industry forums and events, including IEEE, SEE, CIGRE, etc.
  • Facilitate Substation equipment specification and drawings review; coordinate with manufacturers and vendors to ensure adherence to company requirements.
  • Perform independent and/or collaborative research to find innovative and cost-effective engineering solutions to operational problems, as appropriate for level.
  • Develop training for engineers/partner groups and assist less experienced colleagues in planning, conceptual/detail engineering, and the field, as appropriate for level.
  • Serve as a management consultant on engineering problems and issues, as appropriate for level.
  • Control technical, financial, and service commitments to internal and external customers, as appropriate for level.
  • Provide project management support that includes budget forecasts, scheduling, coordination, construction/commissioning for small, medium, or large-sized projects, as appropriate for level.
  • Gain knowledge, apply, or serve as an expert in skills related to best industry practice, Utility Standards, Codes, or other Legal Standards used to support electrical engineering projects and safe and reliable equipment operation.
  • Research, understand, or perform work on systems related to impacts to FERC, NERC, and CIP compliance standards, as appropriate for level.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering or related field.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate a company vehicle.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices.
  • Experience with substations, transmission, and SCADA automation.
  • Experience with high/medium/low voltage distribution systems, control systems, transformers, SCADA systems, protective relay equipment, high/medium/low voltage circuit breakers, battery systems, and other supporting equipment.
  • Experience with industry standards, codes, and legal standards.
  • Experience with FERC, NERC, and CIP compliance standards.

Skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to operate a company vehicle.

Benefits

Grant PUD posts the full salary range for each position. The midpoint is provided as a reference point and is not a guaranteed starting pay. Starting pay is based on job-related factors such as qualifications, experience, skills, internal alignment, and organizational needs. Most new hires are typically placed between the minimum and midpoint of the range.

Grant County PUD will administer a background check as part of the hiring process, if selected for this position.

The District may use the applicant pool and results from this recruitment to fill additional vacancies in the same classification for up to six (6) months following the recruitment closing date, consistent with District policy and applicable law.

Pay

Salary ranges for each position are as follows:

  • Engineer I: $80,366 - $129,813 Midpoint: $105,090
  • Engineer II: $85,623 - $139,896 Midpoint: $112,760
  • Engineer III: $104,822 - $177,107 Midpoint: $140,964
  • Engineer IV: $112,585 - $192,317 Midpoint: $152,452
  • Engineer V: $130,666 - $228,062 Midpoint: $179,364
