Substation Design Manager
About the role
As a Substation Design Manager in HDR's Power Delivery practice, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of power systems. Your work will contribute to reliable, resilient, and sustainable power systems, enhancing communities and industries.
Responsibilities
- Develops a partnership with a Project Manager (PM) and leads the technical team.
- Assigns project tasks and provides technical guidance to project team members.
- Supports the technical aspects of scope, schedule, and budget, including proposal development, work breakdown structure development, progress assessment, risk assessment, change management, and schedule management.
- Directs, mentors, or trains Project Engineers, EITs, or CADD/Designers.
- Performs quality checks and reviews for all project deliverables according to HDR's Quality Management Systems (QMS).
- Works with senior engineers and technical leaders to develop specific technical expertise and attends relevant training and seminars.
- Develops and implements a project execution plan for the technical aspect of projects.
- Coordinates and/or performs quality checks and reviews for projects from other teams as needed.
- Leads multiple projects concurrently, managing teams across different locations.
- Assists with developing technical papers and presentations for industry conferences or events.
- Collaborates with the Project Manager and Project Controller for project reviews with management as needed.
Requirements
- Professional Engineering licensure.
- Previous experience with an engineering consulting firm.
- Willingness to have a strong in-office presence 4-5 days a week.
- Interest in engaging in technical and industry groups such as IEEE, NAPE, EPRI, etc.
- US Citizenship is required.
- Takes initiative and is flexible with embracing change to achieve project goals.
- Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience.
- Thrives in a team environment and demonstrates strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- 5 years of related experience.
Skills
Ability to lead multiple projects concurrently, utilize teams in different locations, and possess strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

$100,870.00 - $144,100.00 annually, depending on skills, experience, education, and geographical location.
