Substation Design Engineer
Job Summary
An industry leader in power delivery engineering is seeking a Substation Design Engineer to serve as a technical lead on projects ranging from distribution to sub-transmission and transmission voltage classes. This is a hybrid role of 3 Days Onsite & 2 Days Remote. Our ideal candidate will come from another engineering consulting company rather than a utility. We have three openings for this job position which are listed below:
- Seven Hills, Ohio: Base Salary: USD $120,000 to $140,000
- Atlanta, Georgia: Base Salary: USD $130,000 to $145,000
- Cary, North Carolina: Base Salary: USD $125,000 to $140,000
Key Responsibilities
Lead substation physical and/or protection & control (P&C) design efforts. Develop electrical engineering deliverables using tools such as CYME. Manage project schedules, budgets, and resource planning. Interface directly with clients, vendors, and subcontractors. Oversee QA/QC processes and mentor junior engineers. Support renewable energy integration and grid modernization projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering required.
- Minimum 5+ years of HV utility substation design experience (69kV-500kV or EHV 500kV+), either in physical or protection & control design.
- Prior experience with a consulting engineering firm on utility substation projects required.
- PE license or ability to obtain PE within 1-2 years required.
- Strong project leadership and QA/QC experience highly desirable.

Please note: Candidates with less than 5 years of substation design experience will not be considered. Experience limited to industrial, manufacturing, or LV/MV distribution is not a fit. Candidates currently employed by utilities may be considered if they have strong consulting-style design experience.
