Substance Use Specialist Team 1F $2500 retention bonus

The Providence Center Substance Use Specialist Team 1F coordinates services for consumers to minimize stressors and to facilitate substance abuse treatment. This position is eligible for a $2500 retention bonus.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate a variety of services for consumers, including support counseling, problem solving, contracts, and limit setting.
• Establish attainable goals with the consumer and involve consumers, agencies, and others in planning.
• Assist consumers in deciding which areas they want to address, including basic medical procedures and hygiene needs.
• Encourage consumers to attain the highest possible levels of independence while accepting their values and lifestyles.
• Use a flexible approach with a diverse population and participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in developing and implementing therapeutic services.
• Present verbally a synopsis of actual cases as required and conduct Community Outreach Support Groups (COSG) as appropriate.
• Arrange moves for consumers and accompany them to appointments with agencies, clinics, doctors, etc.
• Work with consumers to develop employment skills and initiate vocational/job development activities.
• Provide individual mental health and/or substance abuse counseling/therapy, treating consumers with respect and maintaining professionalism during crises.
• Complete substance abuse assessments on all consumers and identify treatment interventions with staff and consumers.
• Maintain confidentiality in accordance with center policy and legal requirements.
• Develop and implement a plan of care with ongoing consumer input, applying knowledge of Psychiatric Diagnosis (DSM IV) and substance abuse treatment methodologies.
• Assess clinical emergencies, including suicide and danger to others, and develop clear clinical formulations based on behavioral data and relevant theory.
• Identify specific therapeutic interventions appropriate for specific problems and use psychiatric consultation when clinically appropriate.
• Decide appropriate levels of care and refer to various points in the continuum of care.
• Provide specialty substance abuse services to consumers and serve as a resource to staff regarding substance abuse treatment issues.
• Make referrals for inpatient detox or residential treatment and educate staff on community resources.
• Assemble reference materials on dual diagnosis issues and assess/provide individual and/or group substance abuse counseling, including urine collection and tox screening.

Requirements

• Associate's degree required; bachelor's degree preferred in Human Services or related field.
• Minimum 1-3 years of experience in substance use therapy and working with the dually diagnosed.
• RI licensure required: LCDP, LICSW, LCSW, LMHC, LMHC-A, LMFT, LMFT-A; or Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) certification accepted in lieu of licensure.
• Must have a valid driver's license, registration, current inspection sticker, and insured auto.
• Bilingual Spanish preferred.
