About the role
The Substance Use Disorder Therapist works under the supervision of a Licensed staff approved by the Virginia Board of Counseling or Social Work. This position assists with assessments, facilitates group sessions, individual services, and other program services for clients suffering from addiction.
Responsibilities
- Perform intake screening and assist with assessments unless otherwise assigned to a central intake staff.
- Perform and assist with program administrative functions including psychosocial assessments and admission documentation, contacts with all referral sources and family, urine drug screens, and ensure that treatment has been authorized with the payer source both initial and concurrent.
- Take an active role in psychoeducational programming using didactic, audio visual, and other formats of teaching appropriate for this level of care.
- Perform and assist with the clinical group process portion of the program using industry recognized therapeutic modalities and interventions.
- Perform and assist with individual and family sessions as needed.
- Perform and assist with the weekly family education and weekly programs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field.
- Must be a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) in the state of VA.
- OR Master’s degree in human services or related field.
- Must be approved by the state of VA to be a Resident in Counseling (LPC Resident) or approved to be a Supervisee in Social Work (LCSW-Supervisee).
Qualifications
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Must be able to pass a comprehensive background investigation.
Skills
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of substance abuse disorders and treatment options.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
