Description
The City of Norfolk is seeking an experienced professional in the field of network security. The City seeks a candidate with thorough knowledge of network and information security principles with technical skills and experience in firewall management, enterprise anti-virus management, and cross-platform security. The candidate should also be experienced in the development of information security policies, standards and procedures, and administration of Windows 2000/2003 Server with IIS, and Windows Active Directory (AD).
Other duties may include:
- Coincides and maintains data security throughout the City's local and wide area networks, including network server platforms and mainframe and distributed operating system environments.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures that pertain to aspects of network and data security.
- Manages network firewalls, intrusion detection systems, Internet URL, and email content filtering.
- Maintains security by monitoring application security, planning and implementing anti-virus programs, coordinating security issues with departmental security liaisons, and developing and implementing standards, policies, and procedures pertaining to all aspects of network and data security.
- Manages the levels of data security including application security by planning and implementing anti-virus programs, developing and implementing standards, policies and procedures and any other aspects of network and data security.
- Manages network firewalls, Internet URL, and e-mail content filters by monitoring for intrusion detection, password violations, and other security violations, and handling complex issues related to network security.
- Coincides security issues with departmental security liaisons.
- Supervises security personnel in the administration of daily systems security.
Essential Functions
- Maintains security by monitoring application security, planning and implementing anti-virus programs, coordinating security issues with departmental security liaisons, and developing and implementing standards, policies, and procedures pertaining to all aspects of network and data security.

Education/Experience
- Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- Three years experience.
Additional Information & Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License - Knowledge and experience in the following areas will be considered advantageous to any applicant: firewall installation and configuration, intrusion detection and prevention products, anti-spam and content filtering products, familiarity with WAN and LAN hardware and software configurations and network design, project planning, records management, and strong communications skills are considered significant pluses.
- The candidate must be able to successfully pass an extensive criminal history and drug screening.

- Temporary/seasonal and part-time employees are generally only eligible for employer provided parking and access to membership in credit union.
Retirement
- If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
Tuition Assistance Program
- The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply. The applicant’s school of enrollment must be an accredited institution.
