Job Summary
The Substance Abuse Therapist provides outpatient behavioral health and recovery-focused services to individuals struggling with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. This role conducts comprehensive clinical assessments, develops and implements individualized treatment plans, and delivers evidence-based counseling through individual, family, and/or group therapy. The therapist partners closely with patients, families, internal providers, and community resources to support recovery, relapse prevention, and overall wellness.
Job Qualifications
- Must hold one of the following: active licensure as an MFT, LCSW, or Psychologist; registration with the Arizona Board as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, Associate Social Worker, or Associate Professional Clinical Counselor; or current registration as a Psychological Assistant with the Board of Psychology.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience working with individuals with serious mental illness.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with clients with substance use disorders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Solid understanding of psychiatric diagnoses, clinical terminology, and basic medical record documentation.
- Experience and skill in group facilitation.
- Must complete NCI training requirements within 90 days of hire.
- Must possess a valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Job-Specific Duties
- Conduct patient assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Facilitate group therapy and provide supportive individual counseling within scope of practice.
- Maintain timely, accurate clinical documentation, including progress notes, treatment updates, and discharge summaries.
- Monitor patient progress, attendance, and participation in treatment.
- Collaborate with physicians, families, case managers, and other providers to coordinate care and discharge planning.
- Respond appropriately to crisis situations and implement behavioral interventions as needed.
- Follow program policies, billing procedures, and mandatory reporting requirements.
- Participate in treatment team meetings and complete other duties as assigned.
