Substance Abuse Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

Full-time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) positions available on day shift (6am-6pm) and night shift (6pm-6am) at our Youngstown facility.

Responsibilities

• Perform all aspects of nursing care including nursing assessment, treatment plan development, and ASAM admission criteria
• Conduct daily assessments and administer medications
• Oversee medical and psychiatric management of clients in coordination with attending physician, ARNP, Clinical Treatment Team, and Chief Nursing Officer
• Guide patients through detox process per physician’s orders
• Educate patients about their condition and assist physicians/ARNPs with accurate clinical reporting
• Perform nursing assessments at intake and discharge, including necessary paperwork for insurance patients
• Administer, reconcile, store, and secure all medications, including controlled substances in compliance with regulations
• Monitor and document all aspects of patient care in the Electronic Health System, including:
  • Nursing assessments during intake
  • Shift assessments (CIWA and COWS)
  • Changes in patient condition and progress updates
  • Discharge assessments and paperwork
• Follow Universal Infection Control Precautions and ensure compliance by direct care staff
• Reconcile medication at the end of each shift and maintain accurate logs of controlled substance distribution
• Communicate critical patient information during shift changes to maintain high standards of care
• Make independent decisions within the scope of licensure and inform the Chief Nursing Officer/Charge Nurse and Medical Director as needed

Requirements

• Current LPN license in good standing
• 1+ years of experience as an LPN in a detox or similar treatment facility environment
• Maintains current CPR certification
• Detox and psychiatric nursing experience required
• Experience administering medication orally, subcutaneously, and intramuscularly (IM)
• Ability to recognize signs and symptoms of withdrawal, pain, and critically dangerous medical emergencies, and respond appropriately
• Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision
• Physical ability to respond swiftly to patient emergencies
• Ability to remain calm and act timely during emergencies or potential emergencies
• Familiarity with ASAM criteria preferred
• Familiarity with JCAHO Standards of Care for Behavioral Health
• Electronic Health Record (EHR) experience
