Substance Abuse Counselor II

Essential Duties

  • Affords assistance in planning chemical dependency counseling programs.
  • Coordinates the delivery of counseling services to offenders with histories of chemical use, abuse, or addiction.
  • Maintains Therapeutic Community (TC) within the facility, collaborating with correctional staff to create a peer-driven living environment.
  • Conducts comprehensive evaluations using a battery of valid measurement tools to assess recovery needs and re-offense risk.
  • Develops and implements Individual Treatment Plans based on the severity and characteristics of offenders.
  • Provides counseling and recovery skills training, participating in various offender groups.
  • Maintains offender records and submits reports and related documentation as required.
  • Produces an Individual Progress Summary for each offender, reflecting evaluation results and participation quality.
  • Sends a copy of the Individual Progress Summary to the Parole Division for inclusion in the Parole Case Summary.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent (GED) is required.
  • Two (2) years full-time, wage-earning experience in substance abuse treatment or substance abuse education is required.
  • A current valid license as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), or current valid certification as a Certified Criminal Justice Professional (CCJP) by the Texas Certification Board of Addiction Professionals, is required.
  • A valid driver’s license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record is required, unless waived by management.
  • Must successfully complete annual, TDCJ approved background checks and in-service training requirements.
  • Must maintain a valid license or certification for continued employment.

Pay: $24.00 per hour

Schedule

Schedule: Full-time, Monday – Friday, 8-hour shifts
