Summary
National Capital Treatment & Recovery, formerly Phoenix House in Arlington, VA is hiring a full-time Counselor for their Adult Men's Residential Program. The position requires a 60 credit Master's Degree and the ability to become a Resident in Counselor or Supervisee in Social Work upon hire. The position offers full benefits and is bilingual Spanish preferred.
Schedule
Tuesday-Saturday 9am-5pm
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducts individual and group counseling sessions for clients
- Serves as primary counselor, coordinating all aspects of client treatment
- Reviews pre-admission data, notes, and medical history
- Completes psychosocial assessments and entrance reviews
- Maintains client records and documents progress
- Contacts referral sources, family members, and other relevant parties
- Ensures documentation complies with state licensure regulations
- Documents client progression through levels and treatment issues
- Prepares monthly and quarterly reports
- Develops individualized service plans and treatment plans
- Facilitates individual and group counseling sessions
- Presents educational lectures and facilitates treatment groups
- Acts as an advocate for clients within the residential structure
- Monitors client activity during sessions
- Attends weekly staffing and clinical meetings
- Records observations in shift logs and communication logs
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality treatment
- Maintains ethical standards and continues professional growth
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, or related field (60 credits, able to become a Resident in Counseling or Supervisee in Social Work in Virginia)
- Licensure as a professional counselor, clinical social worker, or substance abuse treatment practitioner preferred
- At least one year of experience in human services or substance abuse treatment
- Knowledge of ASAM Criteria
- Fluent Spanish proficiency preferred

- Experience with appropriate populations (adults, adolescents, Spanish speakers) in social services or treatment
