Sub Assistant Teacher (On-Call), All Sites

The Guidance Center is a long-standing provider of services aimed at enhancing the lives of children, adults, and families through various programs. With 25 programs serving over 23,000 individuals annually, we focus on nurturing development, fostering resilience, and cultivating well-being.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement educational activities tailored to encourage age-appropriate growth and development in preschool children.
• Work in a variety of settings across all Head Start Sites, ensuring continuity and quality in care.
• Assist in managing classroom environments to promote a safe and supportive learning atmosphere.
• Collaborate with other staff members to develop and maintain comprehensive educational plans.
• Support children during emergencies, demonstrating the ability to lift up to 60 pounds as needed.

Requirements

• Average of 12 credit hours in Early Childhood Education or a Preschool Child Development Associate Certificate (CDA).
• Enrolled in a program leading to an associate or baccalaureate degree, or enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within two years.
• Knowledge and understanding of early childhood development, including the ability to implement developmentally appropriate curriculum practices.
• Previous experience working with preschool children in a classroom setting.
• Ability to stand consecutively for 3-1/2 hours per part-day class session and 5 hours per full-day class session.
• Ability to ambulate between sitting on the floor and standing, and chair sitting to standing a minimum of 20 times per session.
• Ability to bend and stoop to child level and lift for urgent and emergency situations.
• Ability to bend and stoop to address child concerns a minimum of 12 times per hour on average.
• Ability to sit on the floor or on a child size chair for up to 60 minute duration multiple times during class session.
