About the programme
The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Green Industrial Futures (CDT-GIF) is a £17M initiative led by the University of Bath in partnership with the Universities of Bristol, Exeter, and West of England. Our mission is to train the next generation of research leaders to decarbonise energy-intensive industries and accelerate the UK’s transition to a net-zero economy.
PhD projects
We are offering fully-funded 4-year PhD studentships (stipend + fees) across a range of disciplines. Projects are co-created with industry partners and span:
- Low-carbon process engineering (e.g., hydrogen, CCUS, electrification)
- Sustainable materials and circular economy
- Policy, economics, and systems integration
- Digital twins and AI for industrial decarbonisation
Requirements
- First or upper-second-class honours degree (or equivalent) in engineering, physical sciences, mathematics, or a related discipline
- Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills
- Commitment to interdisciplinary research and industry collaboration
- Eligibility for UKRI funding (residency requirements apply)
