About the Role

A stylist-in-training at Regis is a temporary 90-day position designed to integrate an unlicensed, future stylist into the salon workplace and help them learn the business. This role focuses on delivering exceptional customer service and effective communication with management, customers, and co-workers. The stylist-in-training may be eligible for promotion to a stylist position upon obtaining their license and meeting specific criteria.

Responsibilities

  • Market and grow the business by promoting and selling services and retail products.
  • Observe other stylists and managers at work, and ask relevant questions to learn the business.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, including greeting clients, estimating wait times, and handling complaints.
  • Control expenses by following salon schedules, correctly charging for services, and safeguarding company assets.
  • Promote and sell services and retail products, including recommending additional services or products to enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate promotional sales displays as directed by the company.
  • Answer telephones, stock and dust shelves, sweep hair, and complete other duties as assigned by the manager.
  • Communicate effectively with management, customers, and co-workers in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Maintain and uphold safety standards by identifying and correcting conditions that affect salon safety.
  • Attend work timely and consistently, including mandatory staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Adhere to all corporate policies, procedures, and work rules.
  • Handle all point-of-sale (POS) transactions, including opening and closing the register.

Requirements for Promotion to Stylist

  • Possess a valid cosmetology license in the applicable state of employment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform the duties allowed by the state license, including cutting, styling, coloring, wax treatments, and washing/perming hair.
  • Practice Regis values: honesty, accountability, integrity, and respect.

Qualifications

  • Must graduate from an accredited cosmetology school and obtain the necessary license(s) to perform salon services within or before 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic salon environment with good time management, judgment, and multitasking skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills for professional and courteous communication with customers, co-workers, and management.
  • Computer knowledge, including point-of-sale systems and data entry.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Frequent lifting up to 10 lbs. to stock retail shelves; occasional lifting of 10-25 lbs. to assist with unloading shipments.
  • Continuous standing throughout the day.
  • Continuous reaching, alternating between shoulder level and above shoulder level, to stock shelves.
  • Occasional pushing and pulling to move styling chairs.
  • Continuous exposure to chemicals and fragrances used in salon services, including permanent solutions, shampoos, conditioners, and hair sprays.
  • Occasional climbing of ladders or step stools to stock shelves and retrieve products.
  • Ability to communicate with customers regarding services and their needs.
  • Basic reading, writing, and mathematical skills to complete company forms and documents.
  • Occasional travel to mandatory meetings and training sessions, including overnight travel.
