Study Skills Teacher

About the Role

The Study Skills Teacher is a person of faith who strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education. Under the supervision of the principal, the teacher assumes responsibility for the leadership and management of assigned classes, develops and implements an instructional program aligned with Diocesan Curriculum Standards, maintains detailed records, and fosters positive school-community relationships. The role also involves ongoing professional development to remain current with religious and academic certifications.

Responsibilities

• Embraces and models the Catholic philosophy of education, promotes gospel values, and upholds the doctrinal teachings of the Catholic Church.
• Provides opportunities for faith development in the classroom to prepare students for life in today’s Church and society.
• Articulates and demonstrates Catholic living through personal example.
• Creates a positive learning environment and organizes the classroom to facilitate student learning.
• Supervises and ensures the safety, welfare, and care of students while they are in school.
• Fosters a Catholic community within the classroom and the broader school environment.
• Teaches in accordance with diocesan, local, and state policies, showing respect and fairness to students and parents.
• Develops and implements a daily and weekly instructional schedule covering all curriculum areas.
• Integrates the Church’s teachings into all aspects of the curriculum.
• Determines levels of student achievement and uses appropriate teaching strategies to meet individual student needs.
• Utilizes a variety of instructional resources and technology to promote learning for all students.
• Refers students for evaluation and consultation in collaboration with administration and parents when necessary.
• Includes all students in classroom presentations and discussions.
• Uses a variety of ongoing assessments aligned with Diocesan and school Curriculum Standards.
• Provides prompt, constructive feedback on student work and performance.
• Maintains proper grading and reporting systems as required by the principal.
• Meets deadlines for classroom reports, attendance, and statistics.
• Maintains daily lesson plans.
• Builds cooperative relationships within the school community and promotes respectful interactions.
• Conducts regular parent-teacher conferences and meetings.
• Supports and promotes curricular and co-curricular programs within the school.
• Attends and actively participates in faculty meetings, in-services, and diocesan-sponsored professional development.
• Keeps informed of current instructional practices through professional reading and educational opportunities.
• Participates in professional organizations and maintains personal professional development records.
• Actively engages in the process of continuous school improvement.
• Performs any other job-related tasks assigned by the principal.

Requirements

• Preference given to Catholic teachers; non-Catholic candidates must be willing to support Catholic teachings and philosophy.
• Must be willing to make a public Profession of Faith if Catholic.
• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• Certified by the Arizona State Department of Education as a teacher and meets applicable accreditation requirements.
• Completed Safe Environment Training and signed the Code of Conduct.
• FBI Fingerprint clearance completed.
• Meets Ministry Formation Certification and/or re-certification as required by Diocesan policy.
