About the role
Undergraduate ELAs provide support to students in in-person composition courses at all stages of their written assignments, from brainstorming to final drafts, and facilitate student success through regular check-ins and outreach.
Responsibilities
- Assist students with written assignments from conception to completion
- Support student understanding of course content, LMS navigation, and assignments
- Receive mentorship from instructor and ELA initiative point-person
- Gain experience in writing tutoring and student mentoring
- Attend a pre-term orientation/training
- Meet with instructor before the start of term
- Attend first or second day of class and additional class sessions as advised
- Participate in monthly/bimonthly mentorship sessions/check-ins with instructor
- Attend two sessions with ELA point person over the course of the semester
- Read course materials and assignments, understand LMS layout
- Reach out to students via email, especially those struggling
- Keep accurate records of student interactions
- Organize individual or small group meetings with students, in person or over Zoom
- Attend and/or lead peer review sessions or in-class workshopping sessions
- Comply with department and college policies, including the Code of Conduct
- Maintain students' information confidentiality
