Student Worker Mentee (Undergraduate)

About the Role

This position offers undergraduate students the opportunity to work as a Student Worker Mentee within the Libraries, Institute of Technology & Online Learning. The role combines front-line library services with structured mentorship to support academic and career development.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the Library’s first point of contact, welcoming and assisting students, faculty, and staff with a consistently professional, service-oriented demeanor.
• Curate and sustain shelf integrity by organizing, shelving, and maintaining the cleanliness and navigability of assigned collections to established standards.
• Execute all front-desk/circulation transactions with precision and compliance to standard operating procedures, ensuring data accuracy and patron confidentiality.
• Triage, answer, and appropriately route inbound telephone inquiries; document messages and escalate issues per communication protocols.
• Operate multifunction devices to produce copies, scans, and faxes; verify output quality and resolve routine user issues.
• Monitor and replenish consumables (e.g., printer and copier paper) to maintain continuous service availability; log inventory changes as directed.
• Provide Tier-1 technical assistance for patrons (e.g., printing, scanning, account access), including basic troubleshooting and timely escalation.
• Maintain a safe, orderly, and audit-ready circulation and office environment by cleaning, organizing, and restocking supplies throughout the shift.
• Fulfill Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests by locating materials, verifying bibliographic details, and assisting with packaging, labeling, and processing to meet shipment timelines.
• Engage in structured, mentor-guided exploration of academic and career pathways; establish goals and reflect on progress through scheduled check-ins.
• Translate on-the-job responsibilities into resume-ready competencies by collaborating with the mentor and librarians to identify transferable skills and career applications.
• Complete curated microlearning (videos, articles, activities) aligned to career development milestones; document takeaways and action steps.
• Partner with Career Services for tailored resume refinement and interview preparation, integrating feedback into a professional portfolio.
• Author a librarian-supported research guide on a self-selected topic, demonstrating information literacy, audience awareness, and effective resource curation.

Pay

$21.00 per hour.
