STUDENT WORKER
About the role
The Student Worker Program is designed to provide on-the-job training and experience while participants obtain their degree. We will help you to gain experience in building employment skills, establishing a professional network while continuing your education.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, from plain and corrected copy and rough draft, or from verbal instructions, such materials as reports, letters, vouchers, receipts, lists, orders, schedules, notices, file cards, statistical data, and certified copies of documents.
- Wait on the public or acts as receptionist in a small office; answers routine questions of the public, in person or by telephone.
- Perform all types of filing (alphabetical, numerical, chronological and code), and pulls and charges out file material.
- Post data, keeps records, and prepares reports in accordance with predetermined forms and procedures.
- Perform bills, orders, notes, receipts, permits, licenses, etc.
- Operate various office machines or equipment requiring little specialized training.
- Collect and deliver correspondence, records, packages, etc. on regular messenger rounds and upon request.
- Open, sort, time stamp, and route incoming mail; stuffs, seals, stamps, meters, and registers outgoing mail.
- Search records and files for data.
- Perform comparing and proofreading of documents.
- Sort and arrange documents, correspondence or other material.
- Operate a small telephone console as needed.
- Take notes as needed.
Requirements
- Current enrollment in an accredited college, community college, or business college, having academic standing equivalent to at least a freshman in college -OR- current enrollment as a junior or senior in high school.
- Age: At least 16 years of age. Applicants under 18 years old must present a work permit before starting work.
- A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
Physical Class
Physical Class 2 – Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved. Successful candidates are required to submit the following documents during the hiring process:
- Proof of Age: Proof of Academic Standing regarding the academic level or class level (e.g., Junior, Senior in High School or at least Freshman in accredited college): Acceptable documents include: Official or unofficial transcripts, or a verification letter from the school administration confirming your academic standing (academic class level).
- Proof of Current Enrollment. Acceptable documents include: A current Class Schedule confirming registration for the current or upcoming semester/quarter, or a letter from the School Administration (on official letterhead) confirming enrollment status, or a student ID card with photograph indicating current enrollment (must display the current term).
- Photocopy of Birth Certificate, California I.D. or Driver License.
Additional Information
We do not accept password-protected documents. Ensure documents are unlocked before attaching to your application or sending to the exam analyst.
Eligibility and Vacancy Information
Applications will be processed as they are received and added to the list accordingly. We will use this list to fill vacancies in the County of Los Angeles as they occur.

Copying verbiage from the Requirements or class specification as your work experience will not be sufficient to demonstrate meeting the requirements. Doing so may result in an incomplete application and may lead to disqualification.
