About the role

This position is part of Elevate, NC State’s inclusive postsecondary education program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Student Success Specialist will develop and maintain effective instructional planning relationships with staff and students, analyze student performance data, and coordinate supports to advance program outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Student/Customer Service (30%) – Build productive relationships with staff and Elevate students.
  • Information/Records Administration (20%) – Apply in-depth knowledge of student-level data sources to improve services and program effectiveness.
  • Decision Making (20%) – Analyze multiple data sources within program and university policies to recommend student supports that reflect inclusion and self-determination.
  • Program Management/Program Improvement (15%) – Engage in reciprocal mentoring with staff to enhance program delivery and student success.
  • Coordination (15%) – Communicate and coordinate across a large service delivery team to achieve program outcomes.

About the Department

Elevate is a university-wide initiative administered in the Department of Teacher Education and Learning Sciences within NC State’s College of Education. The program focuses on five pillars of success: academics, employment, personal development, independent living, and social engagement. Elevate accepted its first cohort of students in Spring 2025.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training and experience from an appropriately accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Documented experience teaching or delivering instruction to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in an educational setting.
  • Familiarity with assistive technology and tools that support academic success.
  • Knowledge of effective practices in secondary and postsecondary education and training for students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of person-centered/person-driven planning practices.
  • Knowledge of peer mentorship and allyship for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Pay

Anticipated hiring range: $50,000 – $55,000

Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week
