About the Department

The NC State College of Education is one of the nation’s top-ranked colleges, preparing educators, conducting research, and engaging communities to improve educational outcomes. Faculty are recognized for advancing technology-enhanced learning, community-based partnerships, and workforce development. The college leads in research activity among North Carolina’s education colleges, with over 225 active projects totaling $151 million and research expenditures exceeding $20 million in FY24. The College of Education is home to the Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research, the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation, and Elevate, NC State’s inclusive postsecondary education program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The college has over 18,000 living alumni, with over 6,000 working in public schools across North Carolina.

The Department of Teacher Education and Learning Sciences (TELS) comprises 40 full-time faculty and prepares over 500 undergraduate and graduate students, including 200 in alternative teacher licensure programs. Programs include Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Equity, Educational Psychology, Elementary Education (STEM focus), Reading Education, Learning Analytics, Learning Design and Technology, Middle and Secondary English Language Arts and Social Studies, Multilingual Education/ESL, and Special Education. The department advances education through scholarship, leadership, and advocacy, preparing professionals committed to inclusive learning opportunities and the effective use of digital technologies.

Elevate, NC State’s inclusive postsecondary education program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities, accepted its first cohort in Spring 2025. Administratively housed in TELS, Elevate offers educational credentials such as certificates and focuses on five pillars: academics, employment, personal development, independent living, and social engagement.

Essential Job Duties

• Student/ Customer Service (30%) – Develop and maintain effective instructional planning relationships with staff and productive interactions with Elevate students.
• Information/ Records Administration (20%) – Apply in-depth knowledge of student-level data sources and performance measures to improve services and program effectiveness.
• Decision Making (20%) – Analyze and synthesize multiple data sources within program and university policies, applying solutions grounded in inclusion and self-determination.
• Program Management/ Program Improvement (15%) – Engage in reciprocal mentoring with staff to enhance program delivery and student success.
• Coordination (15%) – Communicate and coordinate across a large service delivery team to achieve program outcomes.

Qualifications

Minimum Experience/Education

• Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Documented experience teaching or delivering instruction to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in an educational setting.
• Familiarity with assistive technology and tools that support academic success.
• Knowledge of effective practices in secondary and postsecondary education and training for students with disabilities.
• Knowledge of person-centered/person-driven planning practices.
• Knowledge of peer mentorship and allyship for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Required License or Certification

• Valid NC Driver’s License required.
• Commercial Driver’s License not required.
