About the Role
Join the Greater Mankato Area Young Life team as a Student Staff. For over 15 years, Young Life has served students and families in the Mankato area. You’ll work alongside two full-time staff members and over 20 dedicated volunteers to support and strengthen ministry in the community. This position focuses on Wyldlife (middle school) ministry.
Ministry Functions
Spiritual Development — “Following Jesus”
- Develop a yearly personal growth plan fostering a vibrant spiritual life, including solitude, retreat, reflection, prayer, and commitment to understanding God’s Word.
- Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines within an active church community.
- Actively participate in the spiritual life of the Young Life community.
- Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development.
Leadership Development — “Equipping leaders, committee and staff”
- Meet regularly with volunteer leaders and area leadership.
- Recruit and train new leaders to build a team reflecting the community.
- Model excellence in contact work, club, Campaigners, and camping.
- Attend and engage in area leadership as assigned.
Resource Development — “Fueling the ministry”
- Raise financial support as directed and maintain donor care practices.
- Communicate ministry updates and progress to donor partners.
- Assist with camp fundraisers and attend occasional committee/adult functions.
Direct Ministry — “Proclaiming and modeling”
- Engage in all three levels of contact work.
- Lead a team to conduct Young Life club and Campaigners/discipleship ministry.
- Participate in summer and school-season camping strategy implementation.
- Potentially serve on summer staff or at a Young Life property under area director guidance.
Ministry Support — “Taking care of business”
- Adhere to Young Life policies, maintaining professionalism in office hours, dress, conduct, and time management.
- Set and review yearly ministry and personal goals.
- Assist with office administration as needed.
- Complete expense reports clearly and on time.
- Perform other duties aligned with gifts, experience, and area needs.
Training
- Participate in regional training events as required by the regional director.
- Work through job assignments under the supervision of the area director or mentor.
- Receive individualized training to develop spiritual maturity and ministry skills (e.g., The 5 C’s).
- Familiarize yourself with area strategy and ministry health as assigned.
- Learn personal fundraising principles, including Basic Elements for Part-Time Staff.
- Take advantage of Young Life discipleship experiences (e.g., summer staff, discipleship focus, adventure camping).
Education
Pursuing a college degree.
Requirements
- Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Profess a belief in Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord.
- Subscribe to Young Life’s Statement of Faith and policies, including ministry expectations during and outside working hours.
