They will act as an ombudsman by advising and assisting students, who are separated geographically, in negotiating the bureaucracy of a large state university system from the time they apply through graduation and placement. Additionally, this employee will assist the Project Director to establish and maintain efficient office routines that ensure effective grant administration through coordination with on campus administrative offices. This employee will develop and maintain student management system to ensure that appropriate information about each participant such as participant contact information and payback agreements are managed in an appropriate and timely manner. Finally, the Student Service Coordinator will maintain communication with participants and respond to appropriate requests from participants. This position is contingent upon continued grant funding. The program will result in the award of a master’s degree or Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and certification for school leadership. The curriculum focuses instruction on local school improvement initiatives through problem-based learning assignments. Each candidate will be assigned a mentor who is an experienced administrator in schools with high populations of Native American students. Classes will be delivered during the school year using computer-based instruction and summer classes held on the MSU campus at Bozeman, Montana. All participants must agree to serve as administrators in schools serving Native American children for a period equal to the length of their education and training or repay the cost of the training. https://www.montana.edu/education/grad/edlead/ilead/ Duties and Responsibilities Student Services Prepare forms and maintain a student file for each student which contains relevant student information and paperworkCoordinate student support among campus agencies and act as student ombudsmanProject which courses each student will need per semester and aid in securing necessary resources Administration Assist the Project Director in the budget managementEstablish and maintain effective office routines, maintain project databases,Maintain open communication with various stakeholders using a variety of methodsCoordinate seminar needs, travel arrangements, and office resources as necessaryAssist in the preparation of quarterly reportsCoordinate project activities with the Native American Leadership Center at Little Big Horn College, MSU’s Office of Sponsored Programs, and other on-campus Native American-serving programs, and assist in writing grants to continue the mission of the program. Position Special Requirements/Additional Information Although much of the work will be performed in an office environment located in Bozeman, MT; the incumbent may travel to state, regional and national conferences to promote the I LEAD program as well as travel to the various Indian reservations across the states of MT, ND, SD, and WY to visit students. Less than 15% of the job responsibilities will require overnight travel.
