Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the implementation of special education services and programs in accordance with federal and state regulations (IDEA, MA Chapter 766).
- Supervise and evaluate special education staff, including special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers.
- Supervise and support the district-wide special education programs.
- Collaborate with general education teachers and special education teachers to promote inclusive practices and provide support for students with disabilities in the general education setting.
- Build collaborative positive and collaborative relationships with families and help them support their students’ success in school.
- Lead and facilitate initial IEP (Individualized Education Program) meetings and three-year re-eligibility meetings, ensuring compliance and effective collaboration among team members.
- Ensure the development and implementation of high-quality, individualized education programs that meet the unique needs of students with disabilities.
- Monitor student progress and data to inform instructional decisions and program effectiveness.
- Serve as a resource for staff, parents regarding special education policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Stay current on relevant research, legislation, and best practices in special education.
- Act as the point of contact for the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) regarding special education matters.
- Assist the Principal in the overall administration and management of the school.
- Supervise and evaluate staff as assigned by the Principal.
- Assist with behavior analysis, student discipline and behavior management and support.
- Foster a positive and supportive school climate.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Massachusetts Licensure as a Special Education Administrator (or eligible for licensure).
- Thorough understanding of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Passion for elementary special education.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a school setting.
- Minimum 5 years relative work experience.
- A sense of humor and a proven ability to work in a polite and friendly manner with all employees and community members.
