About the role

The Research Aide 1 will support the department in research tasks related to the Looking In Looking Out (LILO) evaluation in Mombasa, Kenya. LILO is an anti LGBTQ+ stigma program led by PEMA Kenya. The role involves working directly with Dr. Stojanovski on mixed-methods data collected over the past year, including surveys, interviews, and focus groups.

Responsibilities

  • Data management and cleaning of survey data collected over multiple time points, including recoding values, destringing, labeling variables and values, creating new variables, and using scales for summative scoring.
  • Quantitative data analysis: running univariate frequencies, percentages, medians, means, bivariate analyses (chi-square, t-tests, ANOVAs), and multivariate analyses addressing confounding.
  • Supporting qualitative data coding and analysis using Dedoose, including identifying and grouping code themes.
  • Assisting with scientific publication writing of the analyses.
  • Maintaining, cleaning, and storing lab equipment.
  • Preparing solutions and samples for research purposes.
  • Assisting with safety paperwork and cleaning the laboratory.
  • Receiving packages and processing lab findings/data entry.
  • Compiling instrument usage records.
  • Interacting with researchers, test subjects, and/or patients.
  • Answering phones and department communications.
  • Scheduling and conducting interviews.
  • Assisting with administrative day-to-day tasks.

Requirements

  • Active enrollment as a student at Tulane University.
  • Master’s degree student in public health or undergraduate statistics major.
  • Federal Work Study Award (preferred).
  • Able to provide examples of work.

Qualifications

  • Quantitative data analysis skills: univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analyses.
  • Experience and comfort with Stata or R.
  • Qualitative data analysis skills: coding and synthesis.
  • Experience and comfort with Dedoose, Atlasti, or NVivo.
  • Experience writing scientific articles or reports.

Schedule

Available from time of hire for an estimated 10 to 12 weeks at 20 hours per week. Opportunity to extend if work is progressing well and funding is available.
