Student Opportunities - Machinery and Equipment Internships - Summer 2027 (Field)

The Cincinnati Insurance Companies offer a meaningful summer internship in our Machinery and Equipment department, providing hands-on experience in the insurance industry. This field-based role allows interns to contribute to real projects while learning from experienced professionals.

About the role

This internship is based in various field locations, with assignments determined by corporate needs. Interns will work up to 40 hours per week during Summer 2027, with mandatory travel to our Fairfield, Ohio headquarters for the first and last weeks of the program. Reliable transportation is required for field site visits, with mileage reimbursement provided.

Responsibilities

• Understand equipment breakdown coverage and how we serve customers
• Engage with different departments to learn our corporate structure and collaborative processes
• Contribute to projects that enhance equipment breakdown coverage and operations
• Observe and participate in on-site boiler and pressure vessel inspections
• Assist with field claims on root cause analysis of loss
• Participate in on-site risk evaluations and assessments to identify risk improvement opportunities
• Learn underwriting techniques for equipment-related insurance coverage
• Observe thermography scans of electrical and mechanical equipment
• Research, prepare, and develop technical reports
• Analyze data to understand customer loss trends and identify service opportunities
• Develop technological solutions to help customers reduce loss
• Assist with business activities and processes
• Participate in team meetings, presentations, and projects
• Research emerging trends, analyze data, and evaluate options
• Generate reports, promotional materials, and educational content
• Serve internal and external customers
• Use Microsoft Office tools and related software

Requirements

• Enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at the junior, senior, or master's level at an accredited college/university
• All majors welcome; electrical, mechanical, or technical engineering degrees or related backgrounds preferred
• Collegiate transcripts required (unofficial accepted)
• Good academic standing (cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred)
• Ability to work in the United States without sponsorship (including OPT or CPT)

Qualifications

• Strong aptitude in mathematical and written communication skills
• Ability to interact with leadership and experienced associates in a team setting

Pay

Starting pay begins at $20 per hour, based on the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
