Responsibilities
- Provides physical care to assigned patients and performs technical skills such as point of care (POC) testing.
- Implements nursing orders promptly and adequately with an understanding of the purpose of each.
- Follows policy and procedure for assigned patient care activities, including unit specific equipment and standards.
- Provides patient comfort by positioning, extra bathing, straightening linens, putting personal articles within reach with courtesy and responsiveness.
- Provides for patient safety through preventative measures (i.e. side rails, restraints, bed/chair exit alarm, and through patient education).
- Enters all data into the computer system as applicable.
- Communicates all patient and visitor information and observations to the appropriate person.
- Provides care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit.
- Maintains a safe and orderly work environment and a clean, well stocked work area.
- Assists with maintaining unit equipment.
- May perform the following tasks at the discretion of a RN upon the completion of validated competency:
- Bladder scan
- Remove indwelling urinary catheter
- Simple wound care
- Documentation of an Adult Admission History
- Provide patient education materials
Qualifications
- High School graduate.
- Ability to take vital signs.
- Interpersonal skills, team player.
- BLS/CPR required or must be obtained within 90 days of start date.
- Completion of two years of nursing school in an accredited nursing program including completion of the State's required number of clinical hours.
