Student - Lighting Student Technician SOA

About the Role

This position supports the specific areas of scenic, lighting, and sound design. Applicants are assigned to the production area they have experience or desire in. We are seeking dependable, easy-going individuals who display a good attention to detail.

The Noorda Center for the Performing Arts, as part of Utah Valley University School of the Arts, produces a wide array of musicals, plays, and concerts in addition to presenting touring artists and hosting university events.

Responsibilities

• Support scenic, lighting, and sound design for performances and events

Requirements

• Must be a current UVU student

Qualifications & Skills

• Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction of scenic elements (helpful but not required)
• Proficiency in arithmetic, algebra, and geometry for executing plans and drawings
• Understanding of basic shop safety rules and procedures
• Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternate solutions or approaches
• Skill in determining the appropriate tools and equipment for specific tasks
• Ability to monitor gauges, dials, or indicators to ensure proper machine operation
• Dexterity to quickly move and coordinate fingers, limbs, and body to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects
• Physical ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects
• Competence in applying general rules to specific problems to produce logical answers
• Ability to arrange things or actions in a specific order or pattern according to rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, or mathematical operations)
