Student Life Assistant Director
About the Role
Supports, plans, and manages cases of students who are of concern. Provides guidance to university officials and students to promote health, safety, and well-being of the university community. Responsible for intervention with community members who may pose a threat to themselves and/or others. The primary function is to manage a case from intake to closure and support the work of the Care and Intervention Team.
Responsibilities
- Provide outreach to graduate students, undergraduate students, and employees referred to the Care and Intervention Team.
- Develop, promote, implement, and evaluate programs and workshops for graduate students, undergraduate students, and employees.
- Develop resource and training materials.
- Connect employees with appropriate resources on and off-campus.
- Serve on committees at the university, local, regional, and national levels.
- Provide intake appointments to conduct a holistic assessment of needs.
- Provide follow-up appointments to coordinate action plans, referrals, and support.
- Connect graduate and undergraduate students with appropriate resources on and off-campus.
- Communicate and collaborate with appropriate staff, resources, and the Care and Intervention Team.
- Document case notes in an electronic record-keeping system.
- Track cases and inform supervisor of current cases.
Care and Intervention Team Responsibilities
- Attend and participate in Care and Intervention Team meetings by preparing case notes, reviewing new referrals, and contributing to discussions.
- Make referrals to the Care and Intervention Team as appropriate for graduate students, undergraduate students, and employees.
- Support the Care and Intervention Team by providing interventions to graduate students, undergraduate students, and employees.
- Serve as a backup to the case manager supervisor on the Care and Intervention Team as needed.
Outreach and Awareness Responsibilities
- Create marketing, awareness, and education campaigns to promote case management services.
- Develop and deliver educational presentations tailored to meet the needs of the audience.
- Coordinate with various campus offices to ensure coherent integration of messaging.
Departmental Responsibilities
- Complete special projects or other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Assist in compiling end-of-semester and end-of-year reports.
- Assist in developing and implementing strategic plans.
- Participate in assessment efforts related to case management effectiveness.
- Participate in other committees as assigned.
Communications and Interpersonal Relationships

- Students/Student Organizations to advise, train, intervene, consult, and supervise.

Supervision and Safety Responsibilities
- May provide first-level supervision over student employees.
- Has significant responsibility for the health and safety of others, including ensuring proper policies and procedures are developed and maintained for student health and safety.
Impact on Programs, Services, and Operations
Improper handling of responsibilities may result in substantial health and financial liability, as well as a negative impact on programs, services, and the university's image. Well-developed strategies and programs will affect academic achievement and student retention.
Work Environment
Standard office environment with minimal physical effort required. This position is designated as remote-friendly and follows a hybrid schedule. Following successful completion of training, the employee is expected to work on campus and may have some remote work, subject to operational needs and supervisory approval.
Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that typically acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work, such as a Master's in Student Affairs Administration, Social Work, Developmental Psychology, Educational Psychology, or Counselor Education; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible work experience in developing and implementing programs, policies, and procedures, and supervising and coordinating staff; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Qualifications
- Previous case management experience.
- Working knowledge of electronic record-keeping systems (Advocate or other case management software).
- Experience navigating a complex system of multiple offices/partners.
- Experience supporting students and families in crisis.
- Experience utilizing trauma-informed models of care.
- Experience working with graduate students.
- Strong administrative skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Training in Mental Health First Aid, continuation of care, suicide prevention, substance abuse, violence risk assessment, de-escalation, restorative justice, and/or active listening.

Pay
Annualized salary of $75,000, prorated over a nine-month appointment period.
Schedule
Standard 8 AM to 5 PM, nine-month position. This is an off-date position funded to 6/30/27 with possible extension contingent upon funding renewal.
