Student Library Assistant - Pendergrass Library

About the role

Student Library Assistants (SLAs) are the front-line staff for Pendergrass Library's circulation desk.

Responsibilities

• Checking materials in and out
• Shelving and shelf reading
• Large format printing
• Fulfilling PDF and item requests
• Taking part in various library projects
• Providing excellent patron assistance
• Helping with the functioning of the circulation desk
• Assisting patrons with locating library materials and searching databases
• Processing work requests, such as scanning and interlibrary loans
• Willingness to assist the Agriculture Librarian, Veterinary Medicine Librarian, Engagement Librarian, and other library staff with special projects
• Learning the Library of Congress organizational method for finding and shelf-reading books
• Fulfilling Large Format Print (Poster) requests

Qualifications

• Must be a current UT Student
• Ability to work well with the public: excellent communication skills, multi-tasking skills, attention to detail, and ability to work within a team framework
• Understanding of Macintosh and Windows-based computers and software including Word and Excel
• Experience as a library user or have worked in a library

Schedule

8 - 16 hours per week; Monday - Thursday: 8:00am - 10:00pm, Friday: 8:00am - 6:00pm, Saturday: 10am - 6:00pm
