About the role

The Prevention Coalitions (Aging Safely, Roosevelt, & Hempstead) and OASAS Prevention Program are seeking a Student Intern to support their efforts in organizing and implementing community outreach events, training, and media campaigns. The intern will also assist with individual and group client assessments, substance use prevention community group facilitation, and data collection.

Responsibilities

  • Support organization and implementation of Community Outreach Events/trainings
  • Aid in media campaign design/development and distribution
  • Assist with youth programs
  • Assist prevention program with individual & group client assessments & sessions
  • Facilitate substance use prevention community groups and community education
  • Attend and prepare meeting minutes for monthly coalition meetings
  • Engage/educate community members at outreach events
  • Aid in prevention coalition & program data collection
  • Manage Safe Space Gathering meetings
  • Handle food orders for the youth
  • Monitor sign-in/sign-out sheet for accurate attendance totals
  • Help manage disruptive behavior during meetings
  • Aid in social media engagement by producing content for social channels
  • Post informational/community event flyers to social channels
  • Produce media content highlighting programming
  • Monitor social media web analytics monthly

Requirements

  • MSW Generalist (1st year): 15 hours/week
  • MSW Specialized (2nd year): 15 hours/week
  • Relevant knowledge and/or experience working with high need Nassau and/or Suffolk communities
  • Excellent verbal and written skills-including public speaking skills
  • Proficient computer skills with MS Office
  • Valid and clean driver's license

Qualifications

  • MSW Generalist (1st year): 15 hours/week or MSW Specialized (2nd year): 15 hours/week

Skills

  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications
  • Knowledge of social media platforms
