Student, Intern Power Generation Summer 2027

About the role

This position will work with the Plant’s Engineers and Team Leaders to prepare the candidate for full-time employment in a power plant. Located in Westwego, Louisiana, the role is onsite. During this time the candidate will work on outage project planning, engineering design and review packages, and root cause analysis investigations while maintaining safe work practices at all times. Additional assignments will include time working with the maintenance and operations departments in an attempt to gain a better understanding of power plant principles. Other specific assignments will be assigned based on skill set or training needs.

Responsibilities

• Assist with outage project planning
• Participate in engineering design and review packages
• Conduct root cause analysis investigations
• Maintain safe work practices
• Work with maintenance and operations departments to understand power plant principles
• Complete additional assignments based on skill set or training needs
• Travel 25% to 50% of the time

Requirements

• Work effectively in a team environment to assist in day-to-day activities
• Computer skills: familiar with various databases, Windows environment, and Microsoft toolkit (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Good communication and customer service skills
• Demonstrated ability to apply engineering principles
• Ability to understand procedures, programs, and standards within area of discipline
• Good interpersonal skills along with strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities
• Ability to work well under pressure
• Acceptance of a diverse and inclusive work environment
• Ability to work overtime hours and extended work schedules, including weekends

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled and pursuing a bachelor's, master's, or doctorate degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from a four-year institution (for the duration of the internship)
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale, verified by an official transcript from the previous semester
• Preferred: Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam
