STUDENT INTERN - IT SECURITY (HDQ)

About the role

This position is located at our Headquarters building in Bismarck, ND. This temporary position assists the IT Security team in protecting the organization's information systems, networks, applications, and data. The position supports cybersecurity operations through monitoring, analysis, security tool administration, and project-based work. The intern will gain hands-on experience with enterprise security technologies and processes while assisting with the identification, investigation, and remediation of cybersecurity risk. This position is for the summer months of 2027 (approximately May 17, 2027 through August 20, 2027).

Responsibilities

• Assist with monitoring security alerts and events from cybersecurity tools and platforms.
• Support vulnerability management activities, including identification, tracking, and remediation efforts.
• Assist with identity and access management processes, including user access reviews and privileged access controls.
• Support security projects involving tools such as endpoint protection, security monitoring, certificate lifecycle management, and cloud security solutions.
• Assist with security assessments, audits, compliance activities, and documentation efforts.
• Research emerging cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and industry best practices.
• Help develop and maintain security procedures, standards, and awareness materials.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Be enrolled as a full-time student in a two‑year Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or related discipline program with at least 1 year completed, or recent graduate (within the past 12 months).
• OR be enrolled as a full-time student in a four‑year Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) Computer Engineering program, or a related field with at least two years completed.
• Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5.
• Hold a valid driver’s license.
• Transcript required at time of application.
• This position is identified as a Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) related position, which may allow physical and/or logical access to Bulk Electric System (BES) cyber related assets or systems.

• Previous internship or relevant work experience.
• Additional certifications or coursework in field of study.

Pay

Wage: $21.50‑$23.50 per hour
