STUDENT INTERN - GIS

About the role

This position is at our Headquarters building in Bismarck, ND. This position is for the summer months of 2027 (approximately May 17, 2027 through August 20, 2027). This temporary position assists Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC) Geographic Information Systems (GIS), land surveying, and civil engineering staff in the Civil & Structural Engineering section at headquarters as they conduct engineering services and activities as needed for BEPC and its subsidiaries. The incumbent possesses a basic knowledge of GIS. Under the direction and supervision of the Supervisor, Geomatics, the incumbent will complete a variety of skilled tasks.

Responsibilities

• Assist department staff with assigned tasks, projects, or data entry aligned with field of study.
• Conduct research, analysis, or field support under supervision.
• Attend and participate in team meetings or training opportunities.
• Maintain accurate records, documentation, or logs.
• Follow safety, security, and procedural guidelines.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Be enrolled as a full-time student in a two year GIS, Land Surveying, or Engineering Technology program with at least two semesters completed or recent graduate (within the past 12 months). OR
• Be enrolled as a full-time student in a four year GIS, Land Surveying, or Engineering Technology program with at least two years completed or recent graduate (within the past 12 months).
• Hold a valid driver's license.
• Transcript at the time of application.

• This position may be identified as a Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) related position, which may allow physical and/or logical access to Bulk Electric System (BES) cyber related assets or systems. This position may allow access to privileged information relating to such assets or systems. This position will be required to strictly adhere to all Basin Electric policies, procedures, and programs applicable to the Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous internship or relevant work experience.
• Additional certifications or coursework in field of study.
