About the Role

As an Office Assistant, you will provide general office support to administrative assistants and professional staff in the University Academic Support Centers. You may be assigned to work in one or more Centers based on scheduling needs and your availability.

Daily responsibilities include assisting office visitors, answering phone inquiries, delivering mail across campus, managing the calendar and appointments of multiple professional staff, and assisting with special projects based on which Center you are staffing.

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work with a wide range of students, faculty, and staff as well as maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the needs of those utilizing UASC services.

Responsibilities

  • 85% – Assisting office visitors, answering phone inquiries, managing the calendar and appointments of multiple professional staff
  • 15% – Assisting with special projects based on which Center you are staffing

Requirements

  • During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours
  • For summer periods, the student hourly must:
    • Have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester, or
    • Be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours, or
    • Be enrolled in summer session, or
    • Be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester
  • Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments do not apply to Student Hourly appointments)
  • Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR
  • This is an hourly/non-exempt position
  • A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in an office/customer service setting
  • Previous experience working with basic office procedures, including experience with heavy volumes of phone traffic
  • Previous experience and commitment to supporting KU students in accessing UASC services
  • Experience with tabling events, information fairs, and properly presenting information

Pay

Advertised Salary Range: $12.00 per hour

Schedule

Anticipated Start Date: Monday, September 14, 2026

Preferred work hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
