Student Employee-Engineering Technology-Research Assistant

Student Employee position in the Department of Engineering Technology, Division of Academic Affairs. Hours: up to 20 per week until August 22, 2025; may be renewed for the fall semester.

About the role

This USDA-funded grant project focuses on developing an AI-driven Large Language Model (LLM) and a mobile application to educate farmers. The model will help farmers identify harmful insects, learn mitigation strategies, and adopt sustainable pest management practices. The role requires knowledge in natural language processing (NLP), machine learning, and Python programming. Experience in data curation and translating scientific knowledge into farmer-friendly educational content is essential.

Responsibilities

• Develop an AI-driven Large Language Model (LLM) for agricultural education.
• Create a mobile application to assist farmers in identifying harmful insects and mitigation strategies.
• Curate and process data relevant to pest management and sustainable farming practices.
• Translate scientific knowledge into practical, farmer-friendly educational content.

Requirements

• Background in programming, with Python as a must.
• Experience or knowledge in natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning.
• Ability to curate data and develop educational content.
• Submit a one-page explanation of previous programming work.

Preferred Qualifications

• One graduate and one undergraduate student will be hired.

Pay

$12.00–$14.00 per hour.
