About the role

A student position encompassing approximately 8 weeks of paid hands-on training to prepare for a desirable career as an electrician. Students will learn the following skills and more:

  • Flux-core arc welding and demonstrate skills welding fillet joints on flat, vertical, and overhead positions as well as light-gauge welding.
  • Use of hand and power tools
  • Electrical knowledge courses pertaining to lockout/tagout awareness, electrical quality standards, electrical connectors, specialized tooling, and exposure to shipboard activities.
  • Installation of cables, tags, and banding to meet, collar transit packing, quality requirements, layout for cableways and foundations.
  • Ship nomenclature, cable production information, and production blueprint reading.
  • Able to follow written and oral instructions.

Responsibilities

Capable of learning how to use standard and metric tape measures.

Possess the ability to learn how to read and interpret mechanical drawings, written instructions and technical manuals.

Capable of learning how to safely use hand tools and power tools.

Capable of learning flux core arc welding in all positions (flat, vertical and overhead).

Capable of maintaining constant safety awareness.

Capable of learning other job duties that are relevant to the trade.

Capable of maintaining constant safety awareness.

Capable of working any shift.

Qualifications

High school education/equivalent preferred.

Must have the mechanical and technical knowledge and skill to perform operator maintenance on all equipment pertinent to the position assembly and installation of electrical equipment.

Must be able to work from procedure and other specifications.

Knowledge of Navy and Commercial standards is helpful.

Ability to understand verbal and written instructions and to communicate effectively (in English) required.

Must show at least two years of continuous, stable and verifiable employment, and/or training.

Physical/Mental Requirements

  • Excellent eye hand coordination.
  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs. frequently.
  • Ability to climb ladders.
  • Able to work in confined spaces.
  • Able to work independently with little supervision.
  • Must have problem solving skills.
  • Must have a good understanding of math and measurements.
  • Maintain safety awareness and ability to follow directions.

Pay

$19.60

This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the hourly range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
