Student Attendance Specialist

About the Role

The Student Attendance Specialist ensures that school-age children attend school regularly by investigating causes of unexcused or excessive absences, communicating with families, assisting in problem-solving, issuing attendance-based warnings, and representing the school in court if necessary.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates school-wide attendance efforts and absenteeism prevention programming with a focus on educating families about the importance of attendance and intervening to address underlying issues.
• Works with teachers to monitor student adherence to the school’s attendance policies.
• Communicates with families via emails, calls, and auto-dial notices for targeted student populations.
• Recommends families to administrators for truancy intervention meetings as necessary.
• Attends truancy meetings with school administrators.
• Ensures compliance with state guidelines for student attendance, progress, and system logins.
• Ensures school policy and state requirements are met for all attendance withdrawals.
• Produces attendance and truancy reports for the school, county, and state as required.
• Collaborates with the Student Support Team to assist students requiring referrals to service agencies.
• Develops individualized action plans with families and teachers to improve student attendance and engagement.
• Works with the Student Support Administrator, Head of School, and local school board to improve attendance procedures.
• Works with families and student support staff to prevent juvenile delinquency.
• Develops and implements educational workshops on absenteeism for school staff and families.
• Assists staff on projects related to student attendance and truancy.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED) Certificate.
• Two (2) years of truancy experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to pass a required background check.
• Knowledge of state school attendance laws and pertinent K-12 education regulations.
• Knowledge of state-specific court procedures regarding truancy.
• Familiarity with online learning environments.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
• Ability to travel 20% of the time.

Qualifications (Preferred)

• Three (3) years of experience working with families in a similar capacity, such as enrollment or truancy.
• Post-secondary degree, especially in Education, Counseling, Human Services, or a related field.

Pay

Stride, Inc. considers education, experience, qualifications, work location, expected quality and quantity of work, and required travel when determining salary. Offers typically fall within the bottom half of the range.

Schedule

This is a home-based position but may require one or more days a week in the office as determined by the supervisor.
