Student-Athlete Transition & Support Coach H-289

This is a part-time, hourly position limited to 1,500 hours in a 365-day period. It is a restricted position subject to availability of funding and does not entitle the incumbent to Commonwealth of Virginia benefits. The selected candidate will be required to attend a 2-day New Employee Orientation Program. This position is eligible for periodic telework as determined by the department.

About the Role

The Student-Athlete Transition & Support Unit provides holistic, student-centered support to student-athletes throughout their collegiate journey at Christopher Newport University. The SATS Team works closely with student-athletes as they transition to, through, and beyond their experience at CNU, helping them navigate academic, personal, social, and career-related challenges and opportunities.

The purpose of this position is to effectively implement individualized high-quality support under the guidance of the Director of Student-Athlete Transition & Support to foster student development, promote retention and persistence, and facilitate the successful transition of first- and second-year student-athletes throughout their collegiate experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized coaching and mentoring to first- and second-year student-athletes to support their transition and persistence.
• Collaborate with athletics department coaches and staff to address student-athlete needs.
• Develop and deliver intentional programming to support student-athlete development in academic, personal, social, and career-related areas.
• Conduct proactive outreach and individualized meetings to support student-athletes.
• Utilize calendars, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Mail/Drives for effective communication and organization.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent education/experience.
• Experience providing guidance or mentorship to students.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, or related fields.
• 18 credit hours in Master’s level (or higher) courses in counseling or student advising.
• Experience in academic affairs or student affairs in a college or university setting.
• Experience as a student-athlete, coach, and/or educator at an NCAA Division I, II, or III institution, or K-12 school.
• Experience in a university learning support or academic advising center.

Pay

Salary range: $17.06 to $21.32 per hour, commensurate with education and experience.
