Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist students enrolled in SCC courses one-on-one and in group settings.
- Assist with assignments from the previously studied curriculum.
- Help students with study skills, technology, and time management.
- Work independently and as a team member.
- Maintain a work schedule for on-time appointments.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Current SCC students enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours.
- Written recommendation from a Department Chair or faculty member for each subject.
- Successfully completed required courses in at least one of the following subject areas: Biology, Business Technology, Chemistry, Computer Science, English/Writing, Mathematics, Physics.
- Subject-specific requirements:
- Biology: General Biology: cells to organisms (BIO-150) or higher-level Biology with a grade of "B" or better.
- Business Technology: Microcomputer applications (BTC-103) or higher-level Business Technology with a grade of "B" or better.
- Chemistry: General chemistry I (CHM-115) or higher-level chemistry with a grade of "B" or better.
- Computer Science: Programming fundamentals with Python (CPT-135) or higher-level computer science with a grade of "B" or better.
- English/Writing: English Composition II (ENG-102) or higher-level English/Writing with a grade of "B" or better.
- Mathematics: College algebra (MAT-158) or higher-level mathematics with a grade of "B" or better.
- Physics: General physics I (PHY-150) or higher-level physics with a grade of "B" or better.
Scheduling
- Work hours must not conflict with students' academic schedules.
- Weekday availability required, with hours from morning through evening.
- Schedule is flexible and subject to availability, averaging 10-15 hours per week.
- A set schedule for the semester in the EXCELerator, but may be asked to work in support of additional EXCELerator events, as the student's schedule allows, so long as it does not conflict with the student's schedule.
Length of Employment
- Positions are offered on a term-by-term basis aligned with academic semesters, with the possibility of renewal.
- Openings are available in spring, summer, and fall semesters.
