About the Role
Student Assistants support the mission of the Center for Environmental Health (CEH) by performing a variety of administrative and environmental health functions during New York State’s summer season and beyond. This role provides an opportunity to gain real-world experience in public health through on-the-job training.
Flexible opportunities are available from May to September, with the potential to extend into Fall 2026.
Responsibilities
- Assist CEH district office environmental health staff by performing critical administrative support functions.
- Perform environmental health inspection functions in the field to ensure compliance with the New York State Sanitary Code and environmental health regulations.
- Work independently and as part of a team to problem-solve and complete tasks effectively.
Requirements
- Current matriculation in an undergraduate or graduate program (documentation must be submitted with your resume).
- Must maintain matriculated student status to retain employment.
- This position may require travel throughout New York State, including overnights to areas not served by public transportation.
Qualifications
- Interest in exploring a career in public or environmental health.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) and other computer programs as needed.
Additional Information
This is a temporary, seasonal, non-competitive appointment opportunity. Salary is determined by academic level. Hours worked and schedule are flexible and dependent upon assignment.
