Duties
The Physical Education teacher provides students with engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction that promotes physical fitness, motor skill development, teamwork, and lifelong healthy habits. They plan and deliver lessons aligned with state learning standards, create a safe and inclusive environment for all learners, assess student progress, and encourage positive sportsmanship, cooperation, and personal responsibility. The PE teacher also collaborates with classroom teachers, communicates with families, and fosters a love of physical activity that supports students' overall physical, social, and emotional well-being.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Education or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Completion of a New York State-approved teacher preparation program in Physical Education.
- A valid New York State Initial or Professional Teaching Certificate in Physical Education (PreK-12).
- Successful completion of all required New York State Teacher Certification Examinations (NYSTCE) and other state certification requirements.
- Knowledge of safety procedures, injury prevention, and risk management in physical activity settings.
- Strong knowledge of physical education curriculum, child development, and age-appropriate instructional practices.
Qualifications Desired
- Current certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED.
- Passion for working with elementary-aged children.
- Positive, energetic, and encouraging demeanor.
- Creativity in designing engaging activities for students of all ability levels.
- Flexibility and problem-solving skills in managing multiple classes and changing schedules.
