Structures Estimator

About the role

Herzog Contracting Corp. is seeking a Structures Estimator in St. Joseph, MO to prepare accurate cost estimates, scopes, and proposals for public and private infrastructure projects, supporting competitive bids and negotiated work.

Responsibilities

• Work in a team environment with other estimators.
• Participate in job walks, pre-bid meetings, and site visits to gather real-world insights.
• Analyze project plans, specifications, and requirements to develop accurate and competitive estimates for structural components.
• Perform quantity takeoffs for heavy civil elements including cast-in-place concrete, rebar, formwork, shotcrete, and retaining wall systems.
• Develop cost breakdowns and pricing models using historical data, supplier quotes, and production rates.
• Support value engineering efforts and constructability reviews.
• Handle estimating close-out.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
• Promote and engage in Herzog’s culture and its essential behaviors.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Four-year degree in a construction-related field or equivalent experience preferred.
• 3-5 years of structural estimating or equivalent work experience preferred.
• Proven experience estimating complex bridge and wall projects on large heavy civil projects.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with Bluebeam and HCSS Heavybid is a plus.
• Professional oral and written communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work well in a team environment.
• Approximately 30% travel required.

Pre-Employment Requirements

• Work primarily in an office environment.
• Frequently sits for extended periods of time.

• Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
• Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
