Structural Quality Engineer
We are seeking a Structural Quality Engineer to serve as the internal technical resource responsible for reviewing, validating, and improving engineering drawing packages developed by third-party engineering partners. This position focuses on quality control of structural and precast concrete drawings, ensuring designs meet project requirements, industry standards, constructability expectations, and internal design criteria.
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive quality control reviews of structural and precast concrete engineering drawings produced by outside engineering firms.
- Verify drawing accuracy, completeness, constructability, and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
- Review plans, details, calculations, specifications, and supporting documentation for consistency and technical accuracy.
- Identify design deficiencies, omissions, conflicts, and opportunities for improvement prior to fabrication and construction.
- Coordinate directly with third-party engineers to resolve technical questions and revise engineering packages as needed.
- Support engineering reviews for precast wall systems, floor systems, foundations, structural connections, embedded components, and related structural elements.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, project management, and installation teams to ensure designs align with production and field requirements.
- Develop and maintain internal engineering review processes, checklists, and quality standards.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing design errors, rework, and project delays.
- Support project teams during permitting, fabrication, construction, and installation phases when engineering clarification is required.
- Serve as the technical liaison between engineering, operations, manufacturing, and project management groups.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field preferred. Equivalent industry experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- 5+ years of experience in structural engineering, precast concrete design, engineering review, or related technical disciplines.
- Strong understanding of structural drawings, construction documents, and engineering review processes.
- Experience reviewing engineering plans for quality control and code compliance.
- Familiarity with precast concrete systems, reinforced concrete design, foundations, and structural detailing.
- Ability to interpret structural calculations and engineering specifications.
- Experience coordinating with engineering consultants, fabricators, and construction teams.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and construction drawing review.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify technical inconsistencies and design risks.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Skills
- Experience supporting projects involving critical infrastructure, utilities, government facilities, industrial facilities, or high-security construction is a plus.
Work Environment
This is an office-based, full-time position within the Engineering Department. The role reports to the Director of Operations and Quality Assurance and involves collaboration with internal teams and external clients. Travel is required for site visits and manufacturing coordination.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $60.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
