GPLA, part of the DPR Family of Companies, is a leading firm in structural engineering, delivering innovative and efficient solutions for a wide range of construction projects. We are seeking a talented Structural Project Manager specializing in cold-formed steel (CFS) to join our team.
About the role
This role oversees and manages projects from conceptual design through construction completion, ensuring structural components are designed, modeled, detailed, and delivered according to scope, budget, and schedule. The focus is on cold-formed steel (CFS) framing projects.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Mentor and manage Structural Designers I, Structural Designers II, Structural Design Engineers, and Structural Project Engineers.
Responsibilities
- Manage the production of drawings, specifications, and calculations throughout the project’s design lifecycle, from conceptual design to construction documents.
- Review deliverables to ensure scope and quality standards are met.
- Develop a comprehensive project plan defining objectives, scope, deliverables, and timelines in collaboration with design and construction teams.
- Manage construction administration tasks, including reviewing shop drawings and submittals, responding to RFIs, and conducting site visits.
- Oversee the development of structural designs and analytical models for various building types, with a focus on CFS.
- Perform and/or review calculations and analyses to ensure structural integrity and compliance with building codes.
- Utilize CAD software (e.g., Tekla Structures) and other tools to create 2D drawings and 3D models.
- Manage team members, including engineers, modelers, and detailers, to meet project deadlines and deliver high-quality solutions within budget.
- Collaborate with external stakeholders such as architects, contractors, and MEP designers.
- Lead project design meetings, including setting agendas, taking notes, and providing minutes.
- Stay updated with industry trends, code updates, and advancements in structural design techniques and technologies.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost optimization, and efficiency enhancement.
- Monitor project costs, track expenses, and manage the project budget, including Monthly Status Reports.
- Handle invoicing and pursue payment, including identifying and pursuing change orders due to scope, budget, or schedule modifications.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities to team members.
- Travel to project sites nationwide for site visits as needed.
Skills
- In-depth knowledge of structural engineering principles, codes, and standards, with expertise in CFS framing as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to analyze issues and propose solutions during the construction process.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, architects, engineers, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
- Strong organizational skills to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in design plans, specifications, and construction documentation.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment, including active listening, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
- Adaptability to adjust project plans in response to unexpected challenges and changes.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Tekla Structures) and other structural engineering tools.
- Commitment to staying updated with industry trends, new technologies, and regulatory changes related to CFS.
- Project management experience, including planning, organizing, executing projects, and managing budgets.
- Knowledge of financial and budget management principles for tracking project costs and contributing to cost-effective decision-making.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (Master of Science preferred).
- Professional Engineer (PE) License required; Structural Engineer (SE) License preferred.
- Setup and maintain an NCEES record for licensure.
- Eight years of experience in building structural engineering.
- At least five years of experience in CFS design.
