Structural Project Engineer

About the role

As a Project Engineer specializing in Structures, you'll work closely with other structural group staff, project managers, and clients to perform structural engineering analysis services primarily for commercial and industrial building projects. Our portfolio includes schools, water treatment plants, universities, environmental structures, and many other types of facilities, offering continual engagement and challenge.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional services for design development, final design, construction administration, and forensic engineering.
• Design structural systems using wood, masonry, structural steel, steel joists, concrete (reinforced and prestressed), and light-gage steel.
• Design deep and shallow foundation systems in varied geologic conditions, including collapsible and expansive soils.
• Perform structural design of water and wastewater treatment facilities, including watertight structures.
• Lead specific tasks on large projects and manage smaller projects.
• Maintain and pursue client relationships, including identifying and evaluating project opportunities.
• Provide quality control and assurance on all project work.
• Maintain project budgets and schedules.
• Coordinate, facilitate, and attend internal and external meetings.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer in primary state of residence or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Experience with structural analysis programs.
• Ability to travel as required for project/client responsibilities and business development.
• Ability to work remotely and manage projects, clients, and team members.
• Knowledge of regional design standards, construction practices, and geologic concerns.
• Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (e.g., background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records search).

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in structural engineering or related field.
• Demonstrated experience using Revit.
• 6+ years of experience.
• Project management experience.
• Knowledge of project financials.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk up to 3 miles on uneven terrain.
• Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods.
• Occasionally climb, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist.
• Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull light to moderate amounts of weight (up to 20 pounds, rarely up to 50 pounds).
• Ability to inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify errors or defects.
• May require wearing Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), including flame-resistant clothing, hard hat, and protective footwear.
• May require occasional evenings, weekends, and overtime depending on workload.
• May require travel to off-site locations, including occasional overnight stays.
