Structural Intern

About the role

Over a 10–12 week summer program, you’ll assist in the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of structural systems for a variety of building types while working closely with experienced engineers and consultants. You’ll collaborate across disciplines, support project documentation and quality reviews, and contribute to work delivered within project budgets and client expectations. The structural team serves commercial and institutional markets, including education, housing, automotive, industrial, and municipal projects, and contributes to sustainable design goals such as SE2050.

Locations: Farmington Hills, MI; Jacksonville, FL; Cincinnati, OH.

Responsibilities

• Assist with structural design portions of projects according to code and IMEG standards
• Research and find resources related to projects
• Support good client relations, the project design notebook, and documentation for permanent record files
• Coordinate design and schedules with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and supplier teams
• Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress
• Review all project documents for accuracy and completeness prior to requesting a final check
• Prepare and issue addendum information
• Conduct periodic job site observations and perform all other services required by the contract services agreement

Requirements

• Completed at least 2 years toward a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent
• Strong interest in design consulting
• Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
• Ability to communicate clearly in both oral and written form to individuals or groups

Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry is preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds
• Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull
• Limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises

Pay

$22.00 – $24.00 per hour.
