About the role
This entry-level position provides hands-on design, analysis, and project execution experience with mentorship, training, and growth opportunities from day one. You will collaborate with experienced engineers and consultants to develop structural solutions and project documents for a variety of building types, including commercial, institutional, housing, parking, education, healthcare, and data centers. The role supports sustainable design goals, including SE2050.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and analysis of structural systems using various building materials, engineering software, and tools to create designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards.
- Interact with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively.
- Support consulting project execution as part of a project team.
- Assist in project planning and scheduling to meet deadlines and objectives.
- Document design decisions and client instructions while monitoring project design progress.
- Analyze low to medium complexity engineering tasks and collaborate with senior engineers to develop practical solutions.
- Participate in IMEG quality control processes to ensure designs meet industry and client standards.
- Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in structural engineering.
- Prioritize safety and conduct work in an ethical and professional manner.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions.
- Engage in the full project lifecycle, from conception through construction, including developing designs, construction documents, and participating in construction administration duties such as reviewing submittals and job site observations.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent (required).
- Master’s Degree (MS) in Structural Engineering or related field (required; MS in Structural Engineering preferred).
- Knowledge of design techniques, standards (steel, concrete, wood, masonry), and structural system concepts.
- Strong technical and analytical skills, including principles of structural mechanics and materials.
- Proficiency with industry-standard engineering software and tools for structural analysis and design.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
- Basic knowledge of BIM software.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to travel up to 5% with occasional overnight stays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry.
- Engineering in Training (EIT) License.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds.
- Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull.
- Limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises.
